ABOUT ME
What is this?
Below you will find a few documents I created that outline my own usage and interaction with social media. In my resident map, you see how I use my social medias and whether I use them as a visitor, where I use the site but don't exist in a space on the site, like google docs, or as a resident, like Facebook or Twitter. You will also find a bit about my personal brand as a professional cannabis writer and my Linkedin summary. Feel free to connect with me!

Social Media Residence Visitor Map Reflection
As a writer and an account manager, I found that most of my more, professional social medias were resident in nature, where documents and information can be shared and organized, like google docs. Moreover, the things that allow me to do my job as an outreach manager for a branding company called nakonlinebranding.net, like search engines and blog resources. As a freelance writer, I am often being contracted by people who aren’t in my immediate vicinity, which is why I list Skype among my more professional social medias. Looking at this map, the social media my partner described in my audit as “unfocused” with regard to whether it was professional or personal makes sense, as my Facebook has a large amount of claim in both professional and personal ends of my map. I’d like to include google docs and gmail in the same section, because I do use gmail both personally and professionally, but I have separate accounts. Twitter, which I believe is a bit more focused, only has a small bit of it’s feet in both professional and personal, as I don’t believe I have fully fleshed out my Twitter presence yet. I am not sure how I’d like this map to change, but I know I’d like to get more of a professional following on Facebook and Twitter, and I believe that means I have to focus both my efforts on each platform a bit more.

Promoting my Work - Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin
I want to cultivate a professional, studious personality when promoting my writing and hopefully attracting new commissions. I believe this personality begins with the actual writing I do. In my writing, I establish authority by using research and statistics and linking to relevant articles on whatever I am writing about. I use keywords constructively to build organic outreach for clients, so my writing appears streamlined, and free of errors. I want my brand to be good writing. For my professional brand, I need to begin and maintain a steady, regular posting presence that showcases my content and that I am a hard worker and take myself seriously.
When it comes to content, my writing details issues that most people would consider progressive, so I want a strong, empathic brand personality. I write often about vulnerable peoples, and much of my own personal following are people who care about these topics.

Reflection

Social media visibility is one of the benefits of living with a less than common last name, like myself. I was happy to hear that, from a google search, it was fairly easy for my partner to find my social medias. I do think that Brian hit the nail on the head, in his audit, when it came to my unclear intentions for Facebook. While I do want to take advantage of my posts reach on Facebook, as it is easily the only social media platform where I have any sort of following, it is definitely a more personal than professional social media. It still has remnants of my music career littered on it, as well as a few professional posts where I link to articles and blogs I have written.
I think what I’d like is for my Facebook to be the right mesh between personal and professional so that I can rely on my friends following and reading my writing content. In order to do that, however, I need to post more often about my writing and I need to be more vigilant in filtering the rest of the post content I provide. I don’t worry too too much about language in my posts, I never use it in insidious or hurtful manners, and I rarely swear at all on those platforms when it comes to personal posts. I do want to focus my efforts a bit more toward creating that perfect center between professional and personal, high and low context across my platforms.
When it comes to Linkedin and Twitter, I am really just a beginner. I just started my Twitter last semester because I had to share my writing from my internship somewhere besides just Facebook. I started my Linkedin to join my internship’s network, and have only recently updated it. I want to continue to work toward building a network on Linkedin, as I have very few connections.
In sum, however, I am glad that I came across to be an easy going and intelligent person. I know that we can all use a little work with maximizing our social media presence, but I feel like I have a decent start now that I am taking it seriously.
